In addition to ongoing training at our monthly meetings, we hold a regular schedule of classes for the basic 20 hour CERT training. This training is split into nine sections that cover disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression, basic disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, and team operations among other things. The training also includes a disaster simulation in which participants practice skills that they learned throughout the course. All of the regularly scheduled series of classes are FREE to the public and students receive a CERT disaster kit upon completion of the course when available. If you are interested in taking the 20 hour basic CERT class, use the Contact Us form to give us your name, phone number and email address. Please also include which series of classes you wish to sign up for if you know. We will contact you to verify your inclusion in the class. Also, we reserve space for walk in students, so don’t hesitate to bring a friend! Listed below are the next scheduled classes for CERT training. Students must attend the first class (CERT unit #1) to officially enroll in the program, but after that, they are free to take the remaining CERT classes according to their own schedule. There is one exception to this rule. If a student feels that the weather is too hazardous for travel, the student should contact the instructor by calling the voice mail system (614-448-1481) and leave a message and inform them of the condition, and an exception may be made. The rest of the classes can be taken, but this class will need to be completed before the student can graduate. Class size is set at a minimum of ten students. Should any less be enrolled at the start, class will be cancelled and combined with the next class. You will be informed of the cancellation, so please email me back a confirmation if you wish to join the current class. Also contact us if you will not be able to attend a class. Our voice mail number where you can leave a message or hear about any class cancellations and updates is 614-448-1481. Students are therefore able to take the complete course over one month, or several, and are of course welcome to re-take any classes they desire without prior notice. However, students must complete all seven classes (CERT units 1-8) before graduating at a Final Exercise (CERT unit #9).
