Monthly Meetings

 
 
Whether you have completed your CERT training or not, come to a meeting to find out more about us. 
 
Franklin County CERT meets the second Sunday of each month at 5:00pm.  Occasionally we change time or location for special training, so be sure to check the meeting schedule below for the newest information.

Prior to the meeting call the Franklin County CERT voicemail to see if there are any updates to the schedule.  The phone number is 614.448.1481. 
 
July 2010 No Sunday meeting but we will have a drill on Saturday July 24th.  Please check back for the location.  It will most likely be on the west side of the county.   
 
June 13 at 5 PM at the EMA office We will be discussing the elements of the IS 800 test, and hearing from Columbus Public Health.

Past Meetings 
 
April 2010 No monthly meeting, however we will had a drill April 17th at Blendon Woods Metro Park. 
 
 
 
March 14th We practiced with our new training device for fire safety.  We reviewed fire extinguisher safety, then practiced with our new tool. 
 
February 14th We practiced medical skills learned in class, then had some friendly competition with it.   
 
 
 
January 10 We discussed preparing for winter for your home, your car, yourselves.  Do you have everything you need?  Can you help someone else prepare?   
 
December 13 Annual Pot Luck dinner. 
 
November 2009 November's meeting was cancelled. 
 
October 18 We met at the Columbus Sandbagging facility and practiced filling and stacking sandbags. 
 
September 13 We practiced radio communication and how it can aid us during a response.   
 
August 9 We practiced traffic control and a member of the EMA staff was on hand to brief us what goes on at the EMA and how CERT can help out at the EMA. 
 
July 12 Both Columbus and Franklin County Health Dept were there to give us updates on their disaster planning and teach us how to aid them in the event of a mass prophylaxis.      
 
 
June 14 Game Night!  We played games with a disaster theme. 
 
May 2009 No meeting - Happy Mother's Day!! 
 
April 2009 No meeting - Happy Easter!!  
 
March 8, 2009 We talked about weather.  We had a representative from COSWN (Central Ohio Severe Weather Network) discussing general safety, and their role in emergency preparedness for the county.  
 
 
February 8, 2009 This month we will learn about Disaster Assessment, and how to conduct one after a disaster strikes.  This important task may be one of the ways that FCCERT is called on to help in a disaster situation.  
 
January 11, 2009 We reviewed the Incident Command System that we learned about in our 20 hour training.  Handouts from your student manual were passed out to be kept in your CERT kits. 
 
December 14, 2008 An enjoyable time was had by all at our annual potluck dinner.  The EMA Director Mike Pannell joined us and gave us his sincere thanks for all the work that everyone has done over the past year.   
 
November 9, 2008 We learned how to prepare our pets for a disaster, and what to do should you encounter someone else's pet during a disaster.    
 
October 12, 2008 We revisited some medical techniques that were learned in the 20 hour class and had some hands on practice with them.  
 
Sept 14, 2008 An interactive experience with Search and Rescue concepts that were learned in the 20 hour CERT training classes.   
 
 
Aug 10, 2008 ICS 200 
 
July 13, 2008 Part 2 of HazMat certification. 
 
June 8, 2008 The first part of a 2 part class on HazMat certification.  
 
May 18, 2008 The health department was on hand to discuss biological agents that have the potential to spread disease.  We talked about the importance of handwashing and personal protective equipment (ppe).  
 
April 13, 2008 We discussed Family Preparedness with the Health Department. 
 
March meeting canceled due to weather 
 
February 10, 2008 IS-100 was taught.  ID cards were available for anyone who met criteria and did not pick them up in January.  Pictures were taken for those that needed them. 
 
January 13, 2008   We discussed member responsibilities and things that we will be doing in 2008.  ID cards for members who have met the requirements were distributed.
